Rio de Janeiro, also called ”a cidade maravilhosa“ (the marvellous city), is considered a permanent attraction for tourists from all parts of the world. In addition to the most famous landmarks such as the Sugar Loaf, the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue atop Corcovado Mountain, Botanical Garden, Maracanã Stadium, Teatro Municipal or Santa Teresa with its unique tram as well as the sandy beaches Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, this cultural capital also offers a wide range of entertainment possibilities. Whether swimming, windsurfing, jogging, beach football (soccer), beach volleyball, inline skating, paragliding or just beach and sun – nearly all sport activities are possible. Already today Rio is said to be one of the candidates to host games of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
